URGENT: Ministry of Agriculture issues urgent warning to game reserve users due to extreme weather conditions

Due to the heavy snowfall and extremely low temperatures affecting Serbia, and expected in the coming days, the Ministry of Agriculture has issued an urgent warning to all game reserve users, with the mandatory implementation of emergency measures on the ground.

According to the official statement from the Forestry Directorate, game users are required to immediately:

  • intensify monitoring of the condition of the game and their habitats,
  • ensure regular winter feeding,
  • ensure tranquillity in the hunting ground,
  • take all available measures to prevent any loss of game.

It is warned that, in accordance with the law, a temporary ban on hunting may be introduced if conditions such as the following arise:

  • deep snow cover,
  • intense snowfall,
  • extremely low temperatures,
  • the formation of an ice crust,
  • strong winds and increased snow drifts.

The stated measures are aimed at protecting game, which is at an increased risk of perishing due to the adverse weather conditions. The Ministry emphasises that an urgent response from game-range managers is necessary, along with the adaptation of activity plans and the proper keeping of records of all actions taken.

The official statement was signed by the acting director of the Forestry Directorate, Vladimir Nikolić.
